Newborn Photography During Confinement in Singapore

Confinement and newborn photography line up almost perfectly, though most parents don’t realise it until they’re already deep into the month. The traditional Singapore confinement period runs about 28 to 30 days, and the ideal window for newborn photography is days 5 to 14 – both fall inside the same stretch of time, which makes a short studio outing far more manageable than it sounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave for a photoshoot during confinement?

Many families do, especially for a short, focused outing rather than a full day out. A newborn session at Orange Studios runs 2 to 3 hours, timed around your baby’s feeds and naps rather than the clock. If you’re following confinement customs closely, bring a shawl or cardigan for yourself, and let us know beforehand – we’ll pace the session so you’re not standing around longer than needed.

Does the timing actually work with confinement?

It works better than most other newborn milestones. Confinement typically covers the first month, and the best newborn photography window – when baby is still deeply sleepy and naturally curls into those classic poses – is days 5 to 14. Booking your session for the second week of confinement usually hits the sweet spot on both fronts.

What if my confinement nanny or family has concerns about baby going out?

This comes up often, and it’s a fair concern. Our studio at Oxley Bizhub is indoor, air-conditioned, and kept warm specifically for newborn sessions – the environment is more controlled than most outings baby will have in the following months. If specific precautions matter to your family (avoiding certain hours, keeping baby wrapped between setups, minimising the time away from home), tell us during booking and we’ll build the session around it.

Should confinement nanny or grandparents join the session?

Yes, if you’d like – many families bring a confinement nanny or grandparent along, both for practical help with baby between setups and because it’s often the nanny who spots when baby needs a feed or change before anyone else does. There’s no extra charge for them being present at the studio.

Is there a partner rate for confinement centre or nanny referrals?

Yes – we work with PEM Confinement on a dedicated newborn session for their families. If you’ve come to us through PEM, ask about the partner package. For everyone else, our standard newborn session is SGD 650, with every edited image included and gallery delivery within 2 weeks.

What should I actually bring?

Just baby’s usual confinement-month items – a change of clothes, feeding supplies, and anything baby settles with. We provide wraps, backdrops, and props at the studio. If you’re observing specific confinement customs around what baby wears or is wrapped in, bring that along and we’ll work it into the session.

Ready to Book?

A newborn session fits naturally into your confinement month – short, indoor, and timed around baby’s real schedule.
