Frequently Asked Questions About Newborn Photography Costs
What is the average cost of newborn photography in Singapore?
Newborn photography in Singapore typically ranges from $400 to $1,500+ depending on several factors. Budget sessions ($400-$700) usually include: basic studio or home setups, 20-30 edited digital images, 2-3 hour session, and newer or less experienced photographers. Mid-range sessions ($700-$1,000) offer: experienced photographers with strong portfolios, 30-50 edited images, variety of setups and props, and both studio and home options. Premium sessions ($1,000-$1,500+) feature: highly experienced specialists, 50+ edited images, elaborate props and setups, newborn safety certification, and sometimes includes prints or albums.
What affects pricing: photographer’s experience and reputation (established photographers command premium rates), session location (studio vs. home vs. outdoor), props and wardrobe provided (extensive vs. basic), number of edited images delivered, inclusion of family and sibling photos, and whether prints/albums are included or separate. What’s typically included in newborn photography packages?
Comprehensive newborn packages should include several key elements! Session time: 2-3 hours allowing for feeding, soothing, and multiple setups without rushing. This accounts for newborn unpredictability! Setups and variety: multiple poses and positions (curled, stretched, wrapped), different props and backgrounds (baskets, bowls, blankets, wraps), and variety of styles (close-ups, full body, detail shots). Safety measures: newborn safety training and certification, proper posing techniques protecting baby’s delicate body, and composite editing for advanced poses (never forcing unsafe positions).
Professional services: experienced newborn photographer understanding baby handling, patience working with fussy or sleepy babies, and gentle, calm approach keeping baby comfortable. Deliverables: edited high-resolution digital images (package-dependent quantity), private online gallery for viewing and downloading, and printing rights for personal use. Additional inclusions might be: family and sibling photos (some packages include, others charge extra), props and wardrobe for baby, and post-processing/retouching (skin smoothing, background cleanup). At Orange Studios, we provide everything needed for beautiful newborn photos – you just bring your baby!
Why is newborn photography more expensive than regular photography?
Newborn photography requires specialized skills and time! Here’s what you’re paying for: specialized training in newborn safety (proper posing, handling delicate babies, recognizing distress), extensive session time (2-3 hours vs. 1 hour for other photography, accounting for feeding/soothing), patience and expertise (working with unpredictable newborns requires skill), and expensive specialized equipment (props, wraps, warming equipment, sanitized items). Post-processing is also intensive: composite editing for safety (combining multiple shots for advanced poses), detailed retouching (skin smoothing, cleanup), and time-consuming editing (each image individually perfected).
Additional costs photographers incur: liability insurance for working with newborns, ongoing education and safety certification, extensive prop and wardrobe collection (expensive to build and maintain), and studio overhead (heating, sanitization, specialized equipment). You’re not just paying for photos – you’re paying for safety, expertise, patience, and specialized skills that protect your brand new baby!
How many photos should I expect to receive?
Most newborn packages deliver 30-60 professionally edited digital images. This provides comprehensive coverage: variety of poses and positions (10-15 different setups), different angles of favorite poses, close-up detail shots (tiny features, hands, feet), full-body and partial body compositions, and both color and black-and-white versions of favorites. Why not more? Photographers shoot 200-300+ images during session but select only the best: perfect focus and exposure, beautiful expressions and peaceful baby, strong artistic composition, and variety without excessive duplication.
Quality over quantity ensures: every image in your gallery is frame-worthy, no near-identical duplicates cluttering selection, and easier decision-making if ordering prints. If wanting additional images: some photographers offer “all edited images” packages (+$200-400), or individual image purchases ($15-30 per additional image). At Orange Studios, our packages include 40-60 beautifully edited images telling your newborn’s complete story – enough variety without overwhelming you!
Are prints and albums included or do they cost extra?
Most photographers separate digital files from prints/albums, giving you flexibility! Digital-first approach means: all packages include high-resolution digital files, you receive files to download and keep forever, you can print anywhere you choose, and no pressure to buy expensive print packages upfront. Optional print products available separately: professional photo prints ($10-50 depending on size), gallery-wrapped canvas ($80-300), custom photo albums ($200-600), framed prints ($50-200), and acrylic or metal prints ($120-350).
Benefits of separate pricing: initial investment stays lower (just digital files), you decide later what to print after seeing images, you can spread print costs over time, and you’re not forced into packages with prints you might not want. Some photographers include prints: “all-inclusive” packages might bundle digital + prints + album, typically $1,500-2,500 total, convenient but higher upfront cost. At Orange Studios, we focus on delivering beautiful digital files, then offer high-quality print products when you’re ready – no pressure, no rush, complete flexibility!
Do you offer payment plans for newborn photography?
Yes! Many photographers offer flexible payment to make newborn photography accessible. Typical payment structures: deposit to book (30-50% of package price, secures your spot and reserves photographer), and remaining balance due by session day (can pay in advance or day of session). Installment options: 2-month plan (deposit + one payment before session), 3-month plan (deposit + payments spread over pregnancy/early newborn period), and zero interest (no additional charges for payment plans).
Payment methods accepted: bank transfer/FAST, PayNow or PayLah!, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), and cash on session day. At Orange Studios, we understand welcoming a new baby is expensive! We’re happy to arrange payment plans that fit your budget. Contact us at +65 8606 6950 to discuss options – we want beautiful newborn photos to be accessible to every family.
What’s your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Newborn photography policies account for birth unpredictability! Typical structure: deposit is non-refundable but transferable (if you cancel, deposit can move to maternity, family, or milestone photography), first reschedule is free (babies come early/late – we understand!), subsequent reschedules may incur fee ($50-100), and session must occur within 4 weeks of birth (to still be “newborn” photography). Common valid reasons for rescheduling: baby born early/late affecting scheduling, baby or mom health issues requiring rest, unexpected NICU stay or complications, or extreme exhaustion and needing more recovery time.
What happens if: baby born very early (weeks premature) – we work with your timeline, even if delayed, NICU stay – deposit holds until baby comes home, you decide against newborn photos – deposit can transfer to other photography services, or photographer emergency – we’ll reschedule at our expense. At Orange Studios, we’re understanding about newborn unpredictability. Communication is key – just let us know what’s happening and we’ll work together to find solutions!
Can we get a discount if we book maternity and newborn together?
Yes! Bundle packages offer significant savings. Typical combinations: maternity + newborn ($900-$1,200 vs. $1,400+ separately, saves $300-500), Fresh 48 + newborn ($800-$1,100 vs. $1,200+ separately, saves $200-400), or maternity + Fresh 48 + newborn ($1,200-$1,600 vs. $1,800+ separately, saves $400-600). Benefits beyond cost savings: consistent photographer style throughout, photographer knows your family already, simplified planning (book once, scheduled automatically), and preferred client status (priority scheduling, extra care).
Booking process: book maternity first (during pregnancy), tentatively schedule Fresh 48 for due date window, and schedule newborn for 7-10 days after due date (adjust when baby arrives). At Orange Studios, we love documenting complete pregnancy-through-newborn journeys! We offer attractive package pricing for families wanting comprehensive coverage. Even if you book maternity first and add newborn later, we apply retrospective package pricing – you get the discount!
What if our baby arrives early or late?
Photographers plan for this! Since newborn photography ideally happens 5-14 days after birth: if baby arrives early – you notify photographer, reschedule tentative session date, and photographer accommodates new timeline. If baby arrives late – same process, photographer adjusts schedule accordingly. Your tentatively booked date simply shifts: session was tentatively “due date + 7 days”, if baby arrives 2 weeks early, session becomes “actual birth date + 7 days”, and photographer works with new timeline.
Rare complications: if baby SO early that session falls during pre-booked commitment – photographer will try to accommodate or reschedule nearby, or if baby requires NICU stay affecting timing – we extend newborn window beyond typical 14 days. At Orange Studios, we hold flexible scheduling around due dates specifically for this reason. Babies come when they’re ready – we adapt our schedule to yours!
Is newborn photography really worth the investment?
We believe so, but you should decide based on your values! Why families invest: newborn stage is SO fleeting (you’ll never get these tiny moments back), professional quality far exceeds phone photos (skill, equipment, editing), creates treasured family heirlooms (artwork you’ll display for decades), and documents complete family story (not just random snapshots). Newborn photos become: nursery and home decor (beautiful artwork), gifts for grandparents (often their favorite photos), and future treasures for your child (seeing themselves as tiny newborn).
The cost question: is $600-1,000 worth ~40 professionally edited images documenting 2 weeks of your baby’s life? For many families, yes – these become their most treasured possessions. For others, DIY photos or budget packages suffice. Consider: your personality (sentimental? artistic?), budget constraints (can you afford it without stress?), other priorities (would money be better spent elsewhere?), and future regret potential (will you wish you’d invested?). At Orange Studios, we believe professional newborn photos are valuable, but we respect that every family’s priorities and budgets differ!
