At Orange Studios, our cake smash sessions are designed to be relaxed, joyful, and baby-led. But to make the most out of your session, a little preparation goes a long way.

What to Prepare for Your Cake Smash Session

1. Pick a Theme or Colour Scheme

Think soft pastels? Rustic boho? Or a bright and cheerful rainbow party? Having a theme or colour palette in mind helps us create a cohesive and beautiful setup. If you’re unsure — we’re happy to guide you!

2. Outfits for Baby (and You)

We recommend:

• 1 cute outfit for pre-cake portraits

• 1 simple outfit for the actual smash (diaper cover, romper, or just bare baby belly!)

Avoid dark colours or loud prints. Keep it simple and comfortable — your baby’s expressions are the star.

3. Share Any Allergies

If we’re arranging the cake, let us know about any allergies — especially eggs, dairy, or nuts. We offer baby-friendly cakes with less sugar, no nuts, and even eggless options.

4. Bring Along Meaningful Props (Optional)

Some parents bring:

• A small item from baby’s nursery

• Favourite toy or blanket

• Birthday crown or custom onesie
  We also provide decor and props in-studio — so no pressure!

5. Get Baby Fed & Napped (If Possible!)

A happy baby = a successful shoot. Try to feed and nap them before coming in so they arrive feeling fresh. But don’t worry — we’re flexible and always work around your baby’s mood!

6. Stay Calm, Let Go, and Have Fun

There’s no such thing as “perfect” during a cake smash. Some babies dig right in, some take their time. The fun is in their reactions — curious, confused, excited, messy. Just relax, enjoy, and let the magic unfold!

Bonus Tip: Bring a Spare Set of Clothes (For You Too!)

Cake gets everywhere. A towel, wet wipes, and a fresh onesie will save your day — and maybe your shirt too.
