A curated selection of Singapore’s finest outdoor settings
for families with young children
Welcome
Thank you for trusting Orange Studios to capture this season of your family’s story. This guide has been created to help you choose the perfect outdoor setting for your session—one that reflects your family’s rhythm, celebrates your children’s energy, and creates images you’ll treasure for years to come.
Each location has been carefully selected for its ability to offer both natural beauty and practical comfort for families with young children. The timings, notes, and recommendations reflect our years of experience photographing families across Singapore—what works, what flows, and what creates the most relaxed, joyful sessions.
Our Philosophy
For outdoor sessions with young children, we typically recommend one location, or two at most. This measured approach protects your children’s energy, allows genuine moments to unfold naturally, and keeps the experience comfortable in Singapore’s tropical climate. The best sessions happen when families feel unhurried—and that starts with a thoughtful location plan.
Curated Locations
Each setting below offers its own distinctive character—from iconic skyline views to quiet coastal stretches. Choose the location that speaks to how you want to remember this chapter.
Gardens by the Bay
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Evening: 4.30pm or 5.30pm
Why Families Choose It
Open spaces, iconic Singapore views, lush greenery, and a clean, contemporary backdrop that adapts beautifully to both relaxed family portraits and more polished compositions. The architectural lines offer visual interest without overwhelming the intimacy of your family connection.
Session Notes
Weekday evenings flow beautifully here. Weekend mornings are preferable to avoid heavier foot traffic. The combination of manicured gardens and modern structures gives us versatility—soft natural moments alongside Singapore’s signature skyline.
Marina Barrage
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Evening: 4.30pm or 5.30pm
Why Families Choose It
Expansive skyline views, an open lawn that invites natural movement, soft evening light that flatters every frame, and enough space for children to explore without feeling confined. The horizon creates a sense of openness that translates beautifully in photographs—particularly during golden hour.
Session Notes
This location performs best when the weather cooperates. We keep movement simple and organic here—no elaborate setups, just your family interacting naturally against one of Singapore’s most breathtaking backdrops. The light does the heavy lifting.
Sentosa – Tanjong Beach
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Evening: 4.30pm or 5.30pm
Why Families Choose It
A softer, more laid-back beach atmosphere that lends itself to barefoot family moments, playful frames, and a natural lifestyle aesthetic. The sand, the shoreline, the unhurried pace—everything here encourages spontaneity and connection.
Session Notes
Beach sessions work best when kept simple. For families with young children, we recommend staying around one main stretch of sand rather than moving extensively. Let the children play, explore, and be themselves—the best beach photographs come from following their lead, not directing it.
East Coast Park
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Evening: 4.30pm or 5.30pm
Why Families Choose It
Coastal ease with accessible amenities, a relaxed beachside atmosphere, and pockets of both shade and open sand. The combination of natural elements and comfortable facilities makes it particularly practical for families with very young children who may need quick breaks or changes.
Session Notes
This location offers flexibility—we can work near sheltered areas or venture onto the open beach depending on your comfort level and the weather. The casual, everyday feel translates into warm, authentic family moments. Weekday mornings are quieter and give us more freedom to explore different spots along the coastline.
Fort Canning Park
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Late Afternoon: 4.00–5.00pm
Why Families Choose It
Lush greenery with historical charm, dappled light filtering through mature trees, and a sense of quiet seclusion despite being in the heart of the city. The park’s terraced lawns, shaded paths, and heritage architecture create a timeless, romantic backdrop that feels both intimate and expansive.
Session Notes
Fort Canning offers natural shade, making it a strong choice during warmer months. The varied terrain—from open lawns to tree-lined walkways—gives us range without requiring much movement. This location suits families who appreciate a blend of nature and heritage, with a slightly more editorial feel.
Labrador Nature Reserve
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Late Afternoon: 4.00–5.00pm
Why Families Choose It
A quieter coastal reserve with coastal cliffs, sea views, and a more secluded atmosphere. The natural landscape feels less manicured than urban parks—raw, verdant, and peaceful. Families drawn to nature and understated settings often gravitate toward Labrador for its authentic, unhurried character.
Session Notes
This location requires a bit more walking and isn’t as centrally located, but the payoff is a sense of escape and natural beauty. Best suited for families comfortable with gentle exploration and who value a quieter, more organic environment. The coastal light here is particularly soft and flattering.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.30am
Late Afternoon: 4.00–5.00pm
Why Families Choose It
Heritage gardens with world-class landscaping, elegant lawns, mature rainforest, and graceful architecture. The Botanic Gardens offer a refined, classic aesthetic—perfect for families seeking a timeless, sophisticated look with abundant greenery and natural elegance.
Session Notes
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is popular, so early morning sessions are essential to avoid crowds. The variety of landscapes—from Symphony Lake to Ginger Garden pathways—gives us beautiful options within walking distance. Ideal for families who appreciate classic beauty and meticulously maintained natural settings.
MacRitchie Reservoir
Recommended Timing
Morning: 7.00–8.00am
Late Afternoon: 4.00–5.00pm
Why Families Choose It
Tranquil reservoir views, boardwalks over water, and lush rainforest surroundings. The natural setting feels immersive and serene—ideal for families seeking a connection to Singapore’s natural heritage. The reflections on the water and filtered forest light create a distinct, peaceful atmosphere.
Session Notes
MacRitchie requires a bit more logistical planning—parking can be limited, and the location isn’t as centrally accessible. However, families who love nature and want a quieter, more contemplative setting often find it worth the effort. The boardwalk areas offer safe, contained spaces for young children while maintaining a sense of adventure.
Choosing Your Session Time
The timing of your session affects not only the quality of light but also the overall experience for your family. Here’s how we approach scheduling to ensure both beautiful photographs and a comfortable, enjoyable session.
Weekday Sessions
We often schedule weekday sessions from 4.30pm onward, when most locations are quieter and the light begins to soften. The reduced crowds create a more intimate atmosphere and give us greater flexibility in choosing our frames.
Weekend Sessions
For weekend sessions, we generally prefer morning slots to avoid heavier foot traffic at popular locations. Early light is also beautifully soft and kind to young children who may be more energetic earlier in the day.
Seasonal & Weather Considerations
We continuously monitor seasonal patterns, weather forecasts, and your child’s energy rhythms before finalizing the session timing. Flexibility here makes all the difference—we’ll work with you to find the window that serves both the light and your family’s comfort.
Session Preparation
A relaxed, joyful session starts with thoughtful preparation. These suggestions are designed to help your family arrive feeling comfortable, confident, and ready to simply be together.
| Keep it simple | For younger children, we do not recommend moving across multiple locations. One setting—or two at most—usually gives us the best balance of variety and comfort. |
| Stay hydrated | Please bring water for everyone, especially if the weather is warm. Staying comfortable matters more than perfect posing. |
| Pack light snacks | A simple snack can help children settle between moments of active shooting. Think of it as a gentle reset button. |
| Bring something meaningful | A picnic mat, a favorite toy, or a small comfort item can create natural interactions and help little ones feel at ease. These details often become the sweetest moments in your gallery. |
Before your session, we will arrange a preparation call to walk through wardrobe guidance, what to bring, and how to prepare your children for a smooth, joyful experience. This is your session—we tailor every detail to your family’s rhythm and preferences.
