Ashley turns one | Cake Smash Photography

Omnomnomnom. See how Ashley is savouring her birthday cake? Well, it wasn’t always like that during her Cake Smash portraiture session. :p

When Ashley first stepped into our studio, she probably did not realise how much of a fantastic and eventful time she was gonna have. Her Cake Smash photoshoot session was one of the most interesting and amusing ones we’ve done, with her being a very expressive little girl and also having pretty strong opinions about the cake.

Every baby will react differently to the cake smashing, and that is exactly what we would love to photograph. Cake Smash photoshoots are about documenting your baby’s unique and adorable reactions to tasting and feeling cake for one of their first times – a special celebration to mark their wonderful first year milestone!

Read on to find out more about Ashley’s 1 year old Cake Smash story.

Before we started Ashley’s Cake Smash, we of course had to take beautiful portraits of her in one of our timeless setups. As long as the baby/toddler’s attention span allows for it, we always include another setup for his/her individual portraits, other than the Cake Smash.

Ashley looking so adorable in one of our latest baby rompers. Her pose here cracks us up!

This laughter – how do we not fall in love with her?

Just being curious about new things.

Such a cheerful and smiley baby!

And here comes the time for her Cake Smash…

Cake and decoration here were provided by our studio.

If you are a more hands-on mummy and prefer to prepare the cake and decoration on your own, it’s great! No worries about being unsure of what to prepare, as we will definitely provide you with guidelines to ensure your session will be a success. :)

If you prefer a fuss-free session, you may opt for us to prepare standard cake and standard decoration like the one you see below. Colour schemes are based on your preferences. For Ashley’s session, it was a pink and peach theme.

Ashley was amused at first when we placed her in the Cake Smash set. She probably thought it was funny, laughed and then crawled away.

Well, the smash must go on, and so we carried her back to the set.

Check out her look of skepticism, haha. She sure wasn’t convinced about the goodness of the cake, yet.

Announcing her disapproval. All these little expressions of hers are so adorable!

Haha, why so scared of the cake?! :p Anyway, can you spot her cute little dimple on her elbow? We think it looks perfect on her!

Ah, finally. Exploring the fondant topper is a great start. ;)

Yay, first taste of cake! Good job, Ashley! You do notice that she’s still looking a little wary of it, right? Haha, what a cautious little girl she is!

And then she realises that this is a completely different texture from all the other things she has felt before. Creamy cream on her hands.

So what happens if you clap your hands full of cream? :p

Going all out for it. Another funny and adorable expression from Ashley again, haha.

If you’re happy and you know it…

Clap your hands! :D Look closely at this photo – the little “droplets” of cream are splattering across her face! Looks pretty comical, hehe…

She really is happy here! Love it when babies smile/laugh widely and show their double chins. :p

And that’s how you eat cake!

Suddenly wondering if there was a catch to all these fun… or was it a trap?

Finally had enough of the cake and wanted out. Somehow, we think she probably realised what had happened to the cake and was afraid of being punished by her parents. Muahaha. It’s your birthday privilege, Ashley, and you did awesome! <3

The aftermath.

We hope you enjoyed viewing Ashley’s 1 year old Cake Smash story, as much as we did photographing her. :)
